AWARD] Transmission Prize sponsored by Pequinier

Mr. Yoshihiro Murata of Kikunoi, the winner of the "Transmission Award," was presented with the extra prize and a message for future chefs.

On April 4, 2019, Yoshihiro Murata of Kikunoi, a long-established ryotei restaurant in Kyoto, who received the Transmission Prize, was presented with a Pekinier wristwatch, a supplementary prize provided by Calibre Vantean Co.

The "Transmission Award" is given to chefs who have made a significant contribution to the transmission of knowledge and skills beyond national borders and generations.

Mr. Yoshihiro Murata once again offered a message to the chefs who will follow in his footsteps.

---------- ------ ------------------------

Cooking is not something that you make for yourself; it is something that is only possible when the customer eats it. Even if the restaurant is your own, the fact that you are doing business with the goodwill of the restaurant means that it belongs to the public. It is important to have an attitude of cooperation for the community and the country. I believe it is my mission to convey this message.

For example, after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, I heard that restaurants all over New York City cooperated in the recovery effort. It is in times like these that we should be able to do everything in our power to help you.

It is, of course, gratifying to receive high evaluations, including from Gault et Millau, but at the same time, it is a great honor to be recognized by the community and the country.

However, we must not forget that we also have a responsibility to the region and the country.

We should not think about our own cuisine, our own restaurant, our own... but rather, we should think more about the love we have for our cuisine, which is love for people.

A chef is a person who is established by putting unlimited effort on top of talent, and this talent is truly a gift from heaven. We need to keep in mind that we need to use this talent for the benefit of others.

The watch offered as an extra prize this time was the Pequinière Manufacture watch 9010173.The watch was prepared in the image of Kyoto, where Kikunoi's main store is located, and features an indigo-colored face and an indigo-colored belt, which is also impressive.

The back of the watch is engraved with the Gault et Mille Migot logo and Yoshihiro Murata's initials, creating a one-of-a-kind timepiece.

Pequinier is located in Morceau, in the Jura region of eastern France, near the border with Switzerland. The company has also been designated as a French Intangible Cultural Heritage Company.

Pequinier has revived and evolved a traditional industry that has taken root in the region for centuries, and Yoshihiro Murata has introduced Japanese food culture and the way of being a chef.

Although they are in different fields, I felt that they are both major players who are looking at how things should be in the future and bringing about change.
